Fame and War

For some reason, this week’s words intimidated me.  I’m not really sure why but I saw them and thought…what the heck am I going to say about that?  So I opened a notepad on the computer screen and left the words there for the day and I did my work.  Every few hours or so I’d throw a little something together and sound it out to see if I liked the way it was put together.  Now I just want to get away from the computer for the rest of the night so I made my final decision and thought, okay, not bad.  As I started to post the first haiku, the second one pops into my head.  So, this week…I give you two, haiku.

My entry for this week’s

RonovanWrites Weekly #Haiku
#Poetry Prompt Challenge #33

Prompts: Fame & War

This one took all day:
Dreams of infamy,
Thoughts on how to end this war,
Battle your own mind.

This one took seconds.
Enemy lines drawn,
Lose this battle win the war,
With no claim to fame.

Intermission

I’ve been staring blindly at this canvas,
and the reality of what’s in front of me
is nothing more than a blank painting.
At least that’s all my eyes can see.

But the imagery flickering inside my head
plays on continuously, without an end.
A silent movie only I can see,
As I watch and cry … and repeat.

Somewhere from within the voices say
this is my punishment for walking away.
Each time we decide to stop and start
are lessons meant to torment my heart.

Even still, I will never wish it away.
No matter the scar stripes or pain.
You’re my dirty addiction, I’m hooked,
each time your voice calls my name.

Secretive meetings, at least to some,
all part of that rush, risking temptation.
When it becomes too real for you, with respect,
I follow your lead and do as you do.

Pursuing redemption has been
the ultimate back story of my life.
Since the day I walked out of yours
instead of becoming your wife.

So here I am left, to wonder,
which existence is real.
That one which I can see
or the one which I can feel.

Maybe I am sleeping.
Maybe it’s all a dream.
Maybe when I awaken,
you’ll be lying next to me.

Ode to wishful thinking.

So, there are a couple of things I’ve noticed with all of these micropoetry (140 characters or less) prompts all over twitter.

1) It is NOT easy to work 140 characters!

2) Most of my “shorts” come up untitled.

I figure I’m lucky enough to get my point across in so few words let alone figure out a title.  🙂

Thought it would be fun just to throw a few I’ve done in the past couple of days on here for you guys to see.

The first one was a picture/word prompt for #cdpoetry issued by ColdDarkPoetry on Twitter.  This was the picture given and the word prompt was “Dawn of the Dead”.  Here was my take on it:

If only I were a zombie
I’d rip you of your flesh
a pound for a pound
maybe drop kick your head
oh how intoxicating
#DawnoftheDead

My next venture of the was for #ashverse issued by Ashverse on Twitter.  The word prompt was “Scattered Clouds”.  I liked this one a lot and need to find a good picture to put it to:

Watching the
scattered clouds
pass me by
ever so slowly.
Each one,
a reminiscent
emotional twang,
tugs at my
heartstrings.

The Battle

New #MadVerse for 2/11 no.237
Issued by: Lady of the Storms on Twitter
Prompt: “My darkness bleeds”

The Battle

My darkness bleeds into corners,
where the desire of reciprocation hides.

Justifying a violent aftermath,
more specifically, an eye for an eye.

Venom incessantly spewed, in hopes
to subdue your opponent for a win.

Instead of keeping them paralyzed,
it vigorously nourished every cell within.

Now the light has taken over, and
the future is where I will thrive.

Despite your many efforts, it seems,
only the strong will survive.
